Anti hindi but why?

In the early 1960's Tamilnadu was the first state where the Anti-Hindi sentiments started. In an address in 1962, the then Chief Minister of the state C. N. Annadurai made a statement opposing Hindi imposition, "It is claimed that Hindi should be common language because it is spoken by the majority. Why should we then claim the tiger as our national animal instead of the rat which is so much more numerous? Or the peacock as our national bird when the crow is ubiquitous?"
He also said "Since every school in India teaches English, why can't it be our link language? Why do Tamils have to study English for communication with the world and Hindi for communications within India? Do we need a big door for the big dog and a small door for the small dog? I say, let the small dog use the big door too!"
M.G. Ramachandran, the founder of AIDMK and former Chief Minister of Tamilnadu refused to accept Padamshree award of the Indian Government as the wording was in Hindi. It was due to the Anti-Hindi movement that the Congress, was wiped out of Tamilnadu in 1967 and the state saw the rise of a regional party known as Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK). Remember AIDMK was formed by MGR after leaving DMK. As the anti-hindi sentiments are still high in Tamilnadu, no national party was ever able to comeback in the state.
Now the reason why, I am going back in 1960's and narrating this anti-hindi story is that because I think Raj Thackeray is on the same track. I can surely say this because Shivsena had also lauched anti-migrant agitations lately. However, it was not specifically targeted to hindi-speaking people. Their ideology was based on sons of the soil concept.
Raj Thackeray is using the anti-hindi formula to gain a political ground in Maharashtra. His newly formed political group Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is only targeting people from hindi speaking states. This inludes the biggest name in the Indian film industry that is Amitabh Bacchan. Now what he gains from this is obvious.

I personally feel the incidents might have happen, but there are no such proofs as such to say if Annadurai had spoken of that sort and Dr.MGR had refused, it is not that tamilnadu has taken hindi as anti - hindi, coz i do personally know a lot of people who opt for hindi in tamilnadu as their second language and a lot of people do speak in hindi.where in there is no violence happened againt people speaking hindi. but this is not the same case with Raj thackery, just because people speak hindi it shud not be obtained back by violence. this shoudl have taken care by the people who were there leading bombay for past few decades, but they want a sudden change with immeidate effect. raj thackerey can reach his goal by love and peace and implementing through peace and distinguishing the importance of the language and asking people to use it more, if i had to speak about tamilnadu, the main reason i should say is the literacy rate, which is very veyr less compared to kerala, and now when it compare it to the literacy rate it is very much clear that when people cannot read tamil themselves how will they know an importance of another language and when the local body or local people insist on speaking tamil alone, rather with any other language, the leaders have to fight for the people as they are the selected representatives for their state and you very well know they would not be leaders if they are not leading the wish of the governed people. But rather this blog describing the facts behind the anti-hindi, could the same author think about Anti-tamilnadu problem in north india, he would obviously say tamilians are hopeless, eat ruthless food, live in awkward climate and most of the people in north india wonder how do people survive in north india. i have seen people in the north feel the people in the south are of less grade of their color as the reson being no one from north mingles with people in south even in a IT Industry, if u r in a IT industry look around and you will find the difference.

And for your kind information Tamil is the oldest dravidian language existing on earth after sanskrit in that concern then people in the north should be speaking tamil too, Alas.we people from south are treated of lower class whenever we go to north, and believe we use respectable words than using BECH**D or MA****.

What happened in 1960's is history when people dint knew how to mingle and they dint even knew if there were other people who existed, doing then you could consider as illiteracy, but now choose for a path designed to reach your goal and do not use Violence, where in the fight for independence itself was not achieved through violence.INDIA is the word represents peace, culture, humanity, oneness and love. but as i see now , i remember those studying in history books in my school and those are just words to make a text book with content nevertheless to be followed. hope we have a united INDIA in future.

JAI HIND !!!!

This is a very important point Devesh has highlighted. Its very much true that in this world where we are struggling to fight against terrorism, there are people still present in our country who still carrying a state wise discrimination in their mind. Hindi is our national language and that is the language we represent our country, inspite of the fact we have so many different cultures and languages ,the only mode of language we join our hearts is Hindi, so we should not avoid it. The way things are going first in Tamilnadu then in Maharashtra ,it seem we are forgetting the country we are from, if the same thing continues for a long time then the day is not so far that people from different state will fight against each other for their own state forgetting about the country they are from and the world will see ,that the country they used to get amazed by its different cultures people and languages, has been divided in small pieces, with no identification of its own. So we still have time to open our eyes and stop quarrelling about petty things that I am a Marathi ,Gujrati,or a Bengali, we should all remember that we are all Indians and of course Hindi is our national language.

Well,its Raj's turn now.
Bal Thackeray is leaving his crown to his son and its all a political game playing by the Thackeray's. Raj is attacking on the very famous celebs of India so tat he can win Maharashtrian's heart.
These buggers can do anything for popularity and vote.
This is how Unity in Diversity goes in India.
Myself still searching for reasons why should I say tat I am proud to be Indian?

Is language to communicate or does it represent a nation?
Is India known to the world by the language hindi?
the answer is simple.Nations are known to the world by its industrial success and wealth.

And coming to the tamilnadu, tamilians are really happy with the language. They are stuck to the language but they are successful.

Madras represents the whole south India and it has some of the best manufacturing plans,Universities and IT companies in India.

Tamil is a beautiful language .Be a part of it and you know the beauty.

Noor: In the first place, I have no hard feelings for the people from Tamilnadu or rather any part from India. Please understand that this post is not targeted towards a particular group of people.

My post is my personal opinion towards the language based politics being played in Maharashtra by MNS. The references that I have used are true to the best of my knowledge and you can check for the same.

Murali: I do agree with you that a language is to communicate, however states and countries are created on basis of language difference. Through my post, I want to highlight the language based politics in India.

Devesh : So you had comments left only to write on those who tried to speak towards tamil, as in your reply it is clearly noticed that you tend to reply me back and murali alone as with others as they are with you until then you dont have anything to complain about, now please do not make this an issue here on, may be i shud stop commenting on this as comments are to express one's ideas and never to discriminate about anything in between, and until now since INDIA has took the power back from britishers, it is always that people in north tend to dominate where in this secualr state.. so im not ANTI-HINDI..i'm just ANTI-CRITICISM. i want to unite with anyone no matter of difference in state to language to color to attitude, even if i'm the last person on earth i would love and feel of great honor to shout..I'm Grateful to be an Proud INDIAN.

At last it is not what the country has done to you, it is what you have contributed to your country and now devesh wants to put his views across to say how much HINDI is important..i would pray for his greatest wish and desire to come true and people of INDIA know HINDI for sure, so as to represent the national language.HATS OFF to DEVESH for his greatest effort on this..hope i could see a smile on my brother DEVESH's face now..Cheers

Lets make a Happier and Lovelier INDIA for everyone.

As far as I can see that the main point Devesh wanted to highlight that ,the practice of violence is the not the way to impose your culture and language ,and no were in the blog there any criticism against Tamil language or any other languages, but it seems the audiences are too sensitive to take it personaly, even I am a Bengali but I am an Indian first, and I also respect my countries different cultures and languages but I also respect my national language which is Hindi and with the declining situation its just a wakeup call for the people who are staying in India or call themselves Indians not Bengali ,Tamilians or Panjabi that in this time of cricis where we have lot more to do for our country lets not think what you are and how powerful is your language, even we all love our mother tongue but we shouldn’t for get our national language as well, we are all matured enough to think about our place as well as the our country that’s India and our language rather than thinking whether I am from a Dravidian dynasty or a Indo Aryan dynasty we all should look to the future not the past we are from ,to help develop our country but by any chance if you think that Devesh has written some thing which is not a fact you can challenge him about that fact of Dr.MGR incident but don’t take it personally, even I also accept some of the drawback of my state ,but I don’t cover but I will try my level best to improve it, not to defend in a bias and rigid way.

Indian, chinese, brit, japanese
please dont put me into this shit...please!!!
why we so confused, searching for the genetic clues
we all knw the answer, but its difficult to digest
we are like a family, split into small groups
coz we all breathe the same air, live in the same space
but we dont care,
caste, creed, breed thts all the same seeds
growin in ppls mind, makin 'em forget we are humans not christ

Guys,
I completely agree with Devesh. We are from north and when we came here, we found one Hindi channel 94.3, whose RJ's used to speak in Hindi and English. But what happened. One more riot in front of their office, now they speak in Kannada.
I think this denotes, how much hatred is their against Hindi as a language in South.
Noor: You said that Tamilians are treated badly. I am amazed at this.
I have stayed for a year in Chennai and have found how badly north indians are treated.
Whenever there is a fight, the police and the people support the Tamils, not us. Even if we are right.

Above all, Hindi is our national language and everyone should know how to speak in Hindi. It represents our Culture and Tradition.

Tamil, Kannad, Malayalam does not represent India.

Michael,

I think, you should mind your language.

It seems you cannot think beyond these words. Your whole world is this shit only.

As far as all this discussion is concerned, it seems that u r living in a imaginary world. You cannot judge what is happening around. Or you must be a South indian.

If a lie is told thousand times, it cannot become true. Hindi is not our national language. Pl note that our Constitution has not allowed declaring of Hindi as our national language.

India is a multi-lingual country. So, please understand that we need to represent India to the outside world in it's true form. Everybody in the world should know that people of India speak multiple languages based on their geographical states and have diverse culture. The world will certainly appreciate the country if we truly live up to the spirit of 'Unity in Diversity' concept.

Let us not project the country as one nation with one language, one religion and one culture ("Unity through Uniformity" concept) and give a falsified notion of the country to the world.
Projecting thru the Uniformity concept means that we are killing or giving secondary treatment to all other languages, religion and culture of the nation. It also means that people having a particular language (hindi) as their mother tongue will have all favours and services done in their language through out the country. Then the concept that every Indian is equal goes off - because hindi speaking people will form the primary citizens of the country and others will be secondary citizens.

Hindians (hindi fanatics - those who want hindi to be spoken everywhere) should stop being selfish and instead of promoting their language can think of promoting the concept with which the nation has been formed. Pl stop hindi fanatism in all forms. Hindi people should try to learn the language of the state they live in and communicate with the locals in the language of the resident state.

Pl fight for a unified India through "Unity in Diversity" concept and drop the "Unity through Uniformity" concept as it will certainly divide the country on long run.
